The Rattenfängerhaus (The Pied Piper House)

Not that the Pied Piper lived here, but on the side of the house facing on to Bungelosenstraße there is a beam bearing an inscription that describes the occasion of the children’s departure:

ANNO 1284 AM DAGE JOHANNI ET PAULI WAR DER 26. JUNII, 130 KINDER VERLEDET, BINNEN HAMELN GEBORN, DORCH EINEN PIPER MIT ALLERLEI FARVE BEKLEDET GEWESEN TO CALVARIE BI DEN KOPPEN VERLOREN.

The Pied Piper House is one of the most famous and most beautiful houses in Hamelin’s Old Town.
